Wajdi is a 58-year-old university student who supports a family of three children and a wife. He came to the UAE in 2002 with knowledge and experience in the field of decorating and contracting. He started a business and brought his family members over to be with him. Unfortunately, his wife was diagnosed with cancer and returned to her home country for lifesaving treatment. His wife was admitted to a private hospital for treatment, and Wajdi bore all the costs of this treatment. In addition, he had been involved in a serious car accident that led to a broken leg and he was not able to work for two months. The company he was running ultimately had a dispute over a material loss and for non-execution of the contract. This led to a huge burden on Wajdi to manage and he ended up being detained in a correctional institution until repayment of the debt.
